March 5, 2010 by biotechconnection.com · 25 Comments

Can bread, pasta, cookies, pizza crust make you sick? For 1 out of 100 people in the US the answer is yes. For this group, Celiac disease, a frequently misdiagnosed digestive condition, is the cause. ucsd’s Wm. K. Warren Medical Research Center for Celiac Disease presents several experts including: Martin F. Kagnoff, MD, one of the country’s leading authorities in Celiac Disease research, discusses how this disease affects the body. Gregory S. Harmon, MD, Gastroenterologist, covers diagnosis and treatment. Susan J. Algert, Ph.D., Nutritionist, shares how to keep the disease under control with a gluten-free diet. agree to much lmao.

  2. MsCellany says:

Have you tried rice bread? Some of the frozen ones are dense and delicious. Also…check out the website Elana’s pantry – she has tons of delicious recipes. Learn how to make gluten-free pie crust and pizza crust. You don’t have to do without.

  3. StayinFrosty says:

eliden, no, that label is from a bag of chips, saying they’re processed in a facility that also uses those ingredients (which means if you were allergic/intolerant to any of those you shouldn’t eat the chips).

  4. GamingHell says:

my cousin has this , He its 17 , he was diagnosed around the age of 8 he has been very responsible he was short before but in about 4 years he got really tall and strong.

  5. eliden says:

what about milk and soy again? 47mins in.

so is she saying milk eggs and soy have gluten in them?

  6. LazyGamerNyx says:

I heard it could be in dressings so you would have to ask the restaurant on the ingredient lists.

  7. r4dsaddict says:

its pretty nasty yea ive been diagnosed since i was 7 im only 12 but it sucks when i was 8 i couldnt understand why i couldnt have my uncles wedding cake

  8. Talon1994878 says:

I had it for almost two years, We complained to doctors over 7 times, all they said it was IBS, we kept getting in, then they said I need a psychological check up, we dropped them and got a second opinion, and I got diagnosed.

  9. Sekhon199 says:

I no man they better find a fuking cure or else imma go fukin crazy !

  10. NateDawg80126 says:

I feel for you, I am going to graduate college in the next two years and have always dreamed of joining the military afterwords, but that dream will never become a reality because of this fucking disease.

  11. Sekhon199 says:

i am 15 years old and life sucks for me because i have celiac disease it really hurts to know that i cant have a donut, slice of pizza, burger, or any of that good stuff. know the fact that i cant have these things makes me feel like a handicap. Others dont think that celiac is a real major issue they say dont worry theres other things. But its really hard to let go of these things especially when u have been eating all these food from a young age.Life really sucks!p.s gluten free bread is nasty.

  12. strawberrycloud1 says:

its such a horrible thing to have, it ruined my life.

  13. daniela8262 says:

I’m getting tested in a few days for it.. I already have IBS but they have a lot of similar characteristics

  14. fearfactor66 says:

Keep eating gluten or the testing will be negative. It says so in the other video by USD Celiac Center. You have to be on gluten in order to do the testing.

I’m afraid to suggest anything because I’m not a doctor and I’m only relying on what my dad is going through.

I would suggest calling up your doctor and askng his opinion. My bet is he’d tell you to continue with your normal diet and stick to foods that aren’t full of fat. My dad had some fries 3 days before his endoscopy and he threw up. Maybe just sticking to healthier options will help. Get your appointment fast tracked, that’s what my dad did when he started finding blood in the toilet.

  16. ksizzlehere says:

thats what ive been reading. My appointment is on the 9th of July. So should I just keep with my old diet and keep eating gluten products until after i find out./?

I must also add that I have noticed some improvement eliminating bread from diet. Yesterday I had a burger which was my first gluten filled product in like 3 days and have been in pain since, but it has gone down some.
I dont want to be back in pain but then again I want the test to be reliable.
    THanks for any additional thoughts.

  17. one4sorrow says:

My dad just got diagnosed with Celiac and the gastroenterologist told him that if he starts a gluten-free diet he’ll probably start feeling better in two weeks time, but the process of full recovery can take months.

Ksizzlehere, have you been properly diagnosed with celiac? If not, you’ve got to be very careful about changing your diet, it can make the results of any tests that the doctor does to properly diagnose you, very unreliable.

  18. ksizzlehere says:

I started a gulten free diet 2 days ago but havent seen much improvement. I had a salad today at this one resturant and felt bad after having a normal salad with no signs of bread. Is gluten in dressings or on ham bits?

I dont know if I have CD or not.

  19. ksizzlehere says:

hey can someone give me some advice? My symptoms are horrible cramp like pain in lower abdominals (slightly above hip area). Pain is on both sides. Ive been dealing with this for over 6 months.I had pizza and my pains got worse with that. Also I got pains in my throat, & heartburn type pain. Felt like i had pressure on my throat. I dont have problems other than that. Food leaves my body will. But then again I have been taking Align (digestive vitamin) as recommended by my last GI .

  20. ponyprincess1997 says:

theree is no cure to celiac disease, no matter what anyone says. Its an injury to your small intestine! There isnt going to be a cure for a ong time, but maybe in like 5 years!!

  21. FlamesandGuns says:

I’m a teen going thru celiac… it sucks. learned bout it TODAY

  22. Squirreleey says:

i have celiac and recently i cannot eat corn and that is abot 3 fourths of the gluten free diet but i have been in the hospital 6 times and i was in the hospital for 7 months

  23. AnnaMishel says:

I’ve been reading a lot of stories about people who have CD and have been cured by eating totally Gluten Free . .Great. But in every case that I read about . . . when there was an incident and somebody lied, about the gluten content in their food, and they unknowingly ingested an entire portion of gluten . . THEY WERE FINE! If cross contamination and trace amount are so
important . . . why weren’t these people who were HIGHLY SENSITIVE have any effects at all, on those ocassions?

  24. AnnaMishel says:

I don’t know what all those tests are bnecessary. Since there is no harm to the gluten free diet . . why not just go on a gluten free diet? If you feel better . .great! . . . . If not . . .then you know it wasn’t Celiac Disease!

  25. AnnaMishel says:

You can “bet your bottom dollar”, if (or when) the pharmaceutical industry discovers a cure for Celiac Disease . . . 1 in 10 people will have it . . So they can cure it with their NEW & EXPENSIVE drug.
